Welcome and support those seeking refuge

Welcome.US sought to build a national movement that would grow capacity for refugee resettlement by mobilizing Americans to get directly involved.

Situation

For decades, government systems and polarized politics have constrained our ability to provide safe refuge to people fleeing war, persecution, and the chance to build a better life in the U.S. The twin humanitarian crises in Afghanistan and Ukraine quickly overwhelmed the U.S. resettlement system, but also unleashed an outpouring of support from Americans who were eager to help. Precision helped launch Welcome.US, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that empowers the American people — from individuals to large corporations — to get directly involved in welcoming refugees.

Approach

Together, we created a broad coalition of support that brought together diverse leaders, including the three former Presidents and First Ladies as honorary co-chairs; an advisory council of activists, military leaders, actors and musicians, CEOs, bipartisan elected officials, faith leaders, and others; partnerships with all the national resettlement agencies; corporate commitments from Walmart, Starbucks, Google, Accenture, and more; and nonprofit and community partners. We leveraged the energy and urgency of the moment by deploying an integrated strategy that included earned and digital media, paid advertising, and grassroots organizing targeting service-oriented Americans and veteran, faith, and business communities.

Solution

Since its inception, Precision has helped the nonprofit introduce new initiatives in response to the invasion of Ukraine and humanitarian crises in Central America, securing over 10,000 media mentions and features in outlets like The Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, Associated Press, NBC News, and NPR, and producing two satellite media tours, resulting in more than 450 media hits.
